Reflecting on National Indigenous History Month

June is National Indigenous History Month and June 21 marked National Indigenous Peoples Day, a time to honour the unique heritage, cultures and traditions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples across Canada. June 21 also coincides with the summer solstice, a culturally significant time when Indigenous Peoples and communities celebrate their cultures and histories. Take a journey through Indigenous historical moments from coast to coast.

Whistler Blackcomb operates on the shared unceded territory of the Lil’wat Nation and Squamish Nation. During this month we pause to hear their stories and honour the achievements and resilience of Indigenous Peoples who have lived on this land since time immemorial and celebrate their presence today. In the Sea to Sky Region, the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre in Whistler is a place to celebrate past, present and future stewardship by Squamish Nation and Lil’wat Nation on their unceded territory, with their partnership and guidance.
